76 students participate in Deen Dayal SPARSH scholarship examination at Lucknow GPO

The Department of Posts organised the first-stage written examination under the Deen Dayal SPARSH Scheme — Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby at Lucknow GPO, providing school students an opportunity to explore philately as a meaningful educational pursuit. A total of 76 students from different schools of Lucknow participated in the examination.
A Hobby with a Purpose
The scholarship scheme is aimed at students studying in Classes 6 to 9. Through philately, the Department of Posts seeks to encourage children’s interest in postage stamps while nurturing curiosity, knowledge and a research-oriented approach.
The initiative proposes annual scholarships for meritorious students who maintain a good academic record and have adopted philately as a hobby.
76 Young Minds Take the Test
The first-stage written quiz examination witnessed participation from students of several prominent schools in Lucknow. Students from Navayug Radiance, City Montessori School, Delhi Public School and Jagran Public School, studying in Classes 6, 7, 8 and 9, took part in the examination.
The programme offered students an opportunity to look at postage stamps beyond their traditional role in postal communication and explore them as sources of information, history and learning.
Officials Attend
The examination programme was attended by Avadhesh Kumar, Deputy Chief Postmaster, Lucknow GPO; Vinay Shankar Srivastava, Deputy Postmaster, Registered Import; and Naresh Chandra Gupta, Deputy Postmaster, Mail Delivery, Lucknow GPO, among other officials.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the culture of philately among young learners by connecting stamp collection with knowledge, curiosity and research. In an age dominated by digital communication, the programme gives traditional postage stamps a new educational relevance and encourages students to discover the stories and information preserved through them.
