Mayawati Slams Congress & SP, Calls Them “Opportunistic and Double-Faced”

Reservation Politics Heats Up, BSP Chief Questions Commitment to SC/ST/OBC Rights

(Pooja Srivastava, Anytime News Network)

: Mayawati has launched a sharp political attack on the Congress and Samajwadi Party, accusing them of hypocrisy and opportunism in matters concerning the constitutional rights of SC, ST, and OBC communities.

Targeting Congress over the issue of women’s reservation, she stated that while the party is now advocating for backward class women, it failed to ensure proper implementation of reservation quotas when it was in power at the Centre. She described this shift as politically motivated rather than genuinely committed to social justice.

On the issue of OBC reservation, Mayawati highlighted that the implementation of 27% reservation based on the Mandal Commission recommendations was not due to Congress efforts, but was realized under the leadership of former Prime Minister V. P. Singh, with strong backing from BSP.

Criticizing the Samajwadi Party, she pointed out that despite the Backward Class Commission’s 1994 report, benefits for backward Muslims under the OBC category were not implemented during SP rule in Uttar Pradesh. She claimed that it was the BSP government in 1995 that took immediate action on this front.

Mayawati further alleged that SP changes its stance depending on whether it is in power or in opposition, reflecting a narrow and caste-driven political approach. She urged marginalized communities to remain cautious of such “deceptive political behavior.”

Regarding women’s reservation, she suggested that if early implementation is desired, delimitation based on the 2011 Census should be considered. She also remarked that Congress, if in power today, would likely follow a similar approach as other ruling parties.

Concluding her statement, Mayawati emphasized that no political party has shown complete sincerity toward the welfare of SC, ST, OBC, and Muslim communities. She advised these groups to accept the benefits currently available while focusing on becoming self-reliant and strengthening their socio-political standing independently.
