Message of Humanity and Service Echoes at Red Cross Event

Grand World Red Cross Day Celebration Held in Kanpur

Kanpur: A grand programme was organised at the Merchants Chamber Hall in Civil Lines on the occasion of World Red Cross Day under the joint aegis of the Merchants Chamber of Uttar Pradesh and the Indian Red Cross Society, Kanpur Nagar. The event highlighted the importance of humanitarian service, social responsibility, and disaster relief efforts carried out by the Red Cross across the world.

District Magistrate and Chairman of the Red Cross Society, Jitendra Pratap Singh, attended the event as the chief guest, while Dr Sanjay Singh, Director of Chest Hospital, Kanpur, was present as the guest of honour. The programme began with a welcome song and a dance-drama on blood donation presented by students of Omkareshwar School, which received huge appreciation from the audience.

On this occasion, the District Magistrate also released a magazine based on primary medical aid and first-aid treatment awareness. Chief guest Jitendra Pratap Singh was welcomed with an angavastram by Merchants Chamber chairman Dr Umesh Paliwal, while Dr Sanjay Singh was honoured by Angad Singh.

Red Cross secretary R.K. Safar presented a detailed report about the activities and achievements of the Kanpur Red Cross Society and informed the gathering about the organisation’s humanitarian initiatives. The programme was conducted by vice-chairperson Dr Pooja Awasthi.

Addressing the gathering, the District Magistrate stressed the importance of helping people in need and said that service to humanity should be considered the greatest duty of every citizen. Chairman of the Health and Lifestyle Committee of the Merchants Chamber and orthopaedic specialist Dr Prasad said that the Red Cross is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation and its volunteers always play a leading role during natural disasters and emergencies.

Several government and non-government individuals working in the field of social service were honoured with angavastram during the programme. Former Merchants Chamber president Dr Indra Mohan Rohtagi, council member Tikam Chand Sethiya, Shesh Narayan Trivedi, Lakhan Shukla, Ramprakash Mishra, Praveen Pandey, Seema Agrawal and many other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
