In a strong push toward modernizing India’s tax ecosystem, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) hosted a high-impact outreach program in New Delhi under the theme “Bridging Borders, Building Trust.” The initiative aimed at spreading awareness about the Income Tax Act 2025, Income Tax Rules 2026, and updated compliance frameworks, particularly focusing on international taxation, transfer pricing, and Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs).
CBDT Member (Legislation) Prasenjit Singh emphasized the government’s vision of a simplified and trust-driven tax regime. He highlighted key reforms such as decriminalization of several provisions, faster taxpayer services, and the use of data-driven “nudge” strategies to boost voluntary compliance.
A major highlight was the unveiling of nine detailed booklets covering Safe Harbour rules, Foreign Tax Credit (FTC), and Tax Residency Certificate (TRC), aimed at guiding taxpayers more effectively. The launch of the AI-powered chatbot ‘Kar Saathi’ further showcased the department’s push toward digital transformation in tax services.
The event, part of a broader stakeholder engagement initiative, saw participation from industry leaders, multinational corporations, tax experts, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), with around 150 attendees actively engaging in discussions.
Senior officials reiterated the importance of transparency, certainty, and global alignment in taxation, signaling India’s readiness for a more integrated and taxpayer-friendly regime.
